Promote and encourage through education programs, training, seminars and forums, to advance directly or indirectly, the cause of tax and accounting skills. Maintaining local chapters to advance the purpose and programs of the Society. Maintaining an affiliation with the National Society of Accountants in order to have a national influence. To promote the general public's understanding and appreciation of professional accountants and tax professionals and the services they render.

More About FSA Seminars
The Florida Society of Accountants has several members that have special knowledge regarding various areas of accounting and taxes. FSA is fortunate that they are willing to share their knowledge.
Robert Bowers has been providing tax and accounting guidance for churches and clergy in the Ft Myers area for over seven (7) years. Bob is planning to expand his seminar in 2010.
Stephen Valentine has been a part of the PTI team for eleven (11) years bringing IRS updates to attendees.

IRS Releases Proposed Regulations Related to Fees for Preparer Tax Identification Numbers
The IRS released proposed regulations that would establish a fee for individuals who apply for a preparer tax identification number (PTIN). The proposed regulations (REG-139343-08)would establish a fee of $50, payable to the IRS, to cover technology costs, as well as compliance and outreach efforts associated with the new PTIN program. The proposed regulations would also provide fo an additional fee (expected to be substantially lower than $50) to be charged by the third-party vendor chosen to operate the new online system. That fee amount is expected to be announced soon, as well as additional details about the launch of a new online application system. These fees could change in future years as program costs are reevaluated. Tax professionals and other interested parties have unitil August 23, 2010, to submit comments regarding the proposed regulations. For more information go to irs.gov.

The Florida Society of Accountants should be proud. In 2009, Past President Wendy Winebrenner ask the membership to take up a cause and help those less fortunate.
Last fall the society helped with a donation as well as supplies to the Sanctuary Mission a homeless shelter located in Homossassa, Florida. At the 2010 Convention another donation was made to the Mission.
This spring numerous members helped with donations to the National MS Society during a Walk MS!!
Several chapters have been donating to various charities throughout the state.

2010 FSA Convention
Elegant, Exceptional, Exciting. . .
Just a few of the words used to discribe the 2010 FSA Convention. The Jupiter Beach Resort can only be discribed as "Elegant". The education was more than "Exceptional". And getting to experience a momma loggerhead turtle laying her eggs on the beach can only be discribed as "Exciting"!
The folks at the Jupiter Beach Resort & Spa made our stay one of the best ever!!
The education was "over the top" this year with a few mandatory topics, a little bit of mystery mixed in, and then some down right fun!
The moon was full, a slight breeze was stirring the air. . . The loggerhead turtle came ashore, dug a hole and started laying her eggs (80 - 100). Members and their families watched this miracle of nature taking place. The eggs were layed, the nest was covered, then the turtle returned to the sea, never to see these hatchlings again. While this turtle covered her nest, a few yards down the beach another turtle came ashore to start the process all over again. Exciting!!
The 2010 FSA Convention has come and gone!! What a wonderful experience it was! Why not plan now to attend the 2011 FSA Convention!!
